Custom Cap MOQ, Sampling and Production Timeline Explained

October 16, 2026 5 min read

Understand how minimum quantities, sample planning and bulk production timing fit together in a custom cap project.

MOQ is a project variable

MOQ is not a universal number for every hat. It can change with the construction, fabric, color count, decoration process, customized components and packaging direction.

HJ CAPS presents 50 pieces as a starting MOQ for selected custom headwear projects. Treat this as a planning reference and confirm the final minimum after the style and specifications are reviewed.

What happens during sample planning

Sampling gives the buyer and development team a physical point of reference. Fit, crown shape, brim, materials, colors, logo placement and branding details can be reviewed before the approved direction moves forward.

The typical sample planning estimate is 5–7 working days. The actual schedule depends on the requested details, material availability and the decisions that need to be represented in the sample.

How to think about bulk timing

A bulk timeline should be planned after the product direction and sample requirements are clear. HJ CAPS uses 25–35 days as a typical bulk production planning range on relevant product information, subject to final specifications and confirmation.

This planning range is not a delivery guarantee. Allow room for approvals, material decisions, production scheduling, quality review and shipping arrangements when working backward from a launch date.

Questions to include in an RFQ

A quote-ready inquiry should distinguish confirmed requirements from open choices. This helps the supplier review the same assumptions when discussing feasibility and timing.

  • Estimated quantity and whether it is one style or several
  • Hat structure, material and preferred decoration
  • Target sample timing and bulk planning window
  • Packaging or label requirements that may affect the project
